Although it’s understandable to be nervous when visiting the dentist, we assure you that there is nothing to worry about. Our team members are here to take care of you and provide the best care possible! We want you to have a great experience in our office and will do whatever it takes to fulfill that. Even so, we do recognize that patients of all ages may have a genuine fear of visiting the dentist or feel uncomfortable with the idea of undergoing long procedures.
Thanks to sedation dentistry, your next appointment can be much more manageable! Our practice offers sedation by nitrous oxide, oral medication, and IV to ensure you are kept relaxed throughout your visit. To learn more about our options, call our team in Winterville, NC today!
Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative administered using a breathable gas that is worn over your nose. This gas is inhaled and begins working immediately to produce a calm, relaxed feeling while keeping you awake to respond to questions and follow instructions.
Nitrous oxide is a great option if you are looking for a sedative that works quickly, but allows you to safely drive home after your procedure is complete. Once the breathing mask is removed, you should be able to resume normal activity immediately. This sedative option is safe for all ages, allowing you, your child, or a family member to feel comfortable during their time at the dentist without feeling afraid.
With oral sedation, your dentist will prescribe a pill to be taken an hour before your scheduled appointment. This gives time for the medication to take full effect before your surgery will begin. Under the influence of oral sedation, you may feel drowsy but will find yourself incredibly relaxed. You will likely stay awake during the procedure, but the sedative produces an amnesiac effect, making many patients completely forget their time in the office.
Because this type of sedative causes drowsiness, it will be necessary for you to have a friend or family member drive you to and from this appointment.
This form of sedation is administered intravenously and is the strongest sedative we offer. This is most commonly reserved for long surgical procedures in our office. While you are being administered IV sedation, one of our team members will monitor your breathing and vital signs to ensure you are feeling well and relaxed.
This sedative may cause you to fall asleep and cause effects of drowsiness to linger after the procedure is completed. Again, it will be necessary for you to make arrangements for someone to drive you home after this appointment.
