What Are Dentures and How Do They Work?
Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth, built from a gum-colored base that holds a set of custom-made artificial teeth. A full denture replaces every tooth on the top or bottom and rests on the gums. A partial denture fills one or more gaps and clips onto the teeth you still have.
Every set of dentures we make at Beacon Dental begins with digital scanning and imaging, which give us precise measurements for shape, bite, and tooth position. Those measurements matter because fit determines how the base holds its position against your gums and bite. Our approach centers on the details that decide whether a replacement feels borrowed or feels like your own.

What to Expect When You Get Dentures
Consultation and Exam
We start by examining your teeth, gums, and bite, using digital X-rays that expose you to far less radiation than traditional film. You will talk through what you want from your new teeth and which foods you miss most. If any teeth need to come out first, we will cover sedation options that keep you relaxed and comfortable.
Measurements and Design
Next we capture the shape of your mouth with a digital scanner, which replaces the thick clay trays many patients remember from years ago. Those measurements guide the shape of the base, the position of each tooth, and the shade that matches your face. Nothing about this appointment is uncomfortable; most patients find it takes only a few minutes.
Your Try-In Fitting
Before your dentures are finished, you will try in a version that lets us check the bite, the fit against your gums, and how the teeth look when you smile and speak. Small changes at this stage make a large difference later. You leave this visit knowing the final set will match what you approved.
Delivery and Follow-Up
On delivery day, we place your finished dentures, check the bite one more time, and show you how to insert, remove, and clean them at home. Mild pressure in the first days is normal as your mouth adapts, so we schedule follow-up visits to fine-tune the fit. Adjustments are part of the plan, not a sign something went wrong.
