Support for Open Airways

What Is Sleep Apnea Treatment?

Sleep apnea treatment addresses repeated pauses or changes in breathing during sleep. A sleep study, completed in a lab or at home with portable monitoring equipment, helps a sleep specialist assess the condition and guide treatment planning. For mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy may be used. The custom-fitted device is worn during sleep and gently moves the lower jaw forward to help keep your airway open.

Services We Offer

Sleep Apnea Treatment Services We Offer

Sleep apnea can disrupt your rest, focus, and health, so understanding your care options matters. We work with sleep specialists to shape personalized treatment plans, including comfortable, portable oral appliance therapy designed to support more restful nights.

KNOWING WHAT YOU'RE TREATING

Sleep Apnea Evaluation

Snoring and daytime exhaustion point toward sleep apnea, but only a sleep study confirms it. Treating the wrong condition wastes months, so the process starts with finding out exactly what is interrupting your breathing and how often it happens each night.

We collaborate with sleep specialists to make sure you receive a comprehensive evaluation. Depending on what fits your situation, the study takes place in a sleep lab or at home with portable monitoring equipment you wear for a night in your own bed. The specialist’s findings determine the type and severity of your apnea.

Those results guide what comes next. For mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy is often a comfortable and effective option, and we’ll walk you through whether it fits your diagnosis before anything is made.

A COMFORTABLE CPAP ALTERNATIVE

Oral Appliances

If loud snoring, frequent awakenings, or constant daytime fatigue sound familiar, an oral appliance may be the answer. This custom-fitted device is worn only during sleep, and it keeps your airway open by gently advancing your lower jaw forward so the tongue and soft tissues cannot collapse and block your breathing.

Patients choose oral appliance therapy because it fits into real life. The appliance is compact, quiet, and easy to pack for travel, with none of the hoses, noise, or power requirements a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine brings. That convenience matters more than it sounds, since many people who struggle to stay consistent with CPAP wear an oral appliance every night without a second thought.

Treatment starts with a proper diagnosis. We work alongside sleep specialists to review your sleep study results, confirm the type and severity of your apnea, and build a plan around it. For mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, a custom appliance from our Winterville office can help you get real rest again.

Restful Nights Ahead

Benefits of Sleep Apnea Treatment

Choosing Sleep Apnea Treatment can feel like sorting through unfamiliar options while tiredness keeps piling up. A personalized plan, developed in collaboration with sleep specialists after a comprehensive evaluation, gives your next steps clearer purpose. Understanding your condition helps connect treatment choices to the life you want back.

Share a Quieter Bedtime

A silent sleep environment can make bedtime feel less disruptive for both people sharing the room. Nights may feel calmer when background noise no longer competes with reading, relaxing, or simply settling in together.
Overnight visits, work trips, and family vacations should not require rearranging your plans around bulky equipment. A compact option can fit more naturally into your packing routine, making it easier to stay consistent away from home.
A treatment plan only helps when it fits into real life. When your nightly routine feels manageable, it can become easier to follow through at home, during busy weeks, and when your schedule changes.
Constant tiredness can make a morning commute, an important meeting, or an afternoon school pickup feel harder than it should. Managing sleep apnea can help support the concentration and reaction time your daily responsibilities require.
When exhaustion follows you through the day, even meaningful time with family can feel difficult to enjoy. More restorative sleep can help you bring greater energy to conversations, shared plans, and the moments you do not want to miss.
Sleep apnea is linked to concerns involving heart health, metabolism, and daytime safety. Addressing it can be an important part of a larger plan for protecting your well-being and staying engaged in the routines you value.

Restful Nights Can Lead to Clearer, Safer, More Present Days.

After a sleep study identifies mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, treatment choices can feel overwhelming. You may benefit from a custom oral appliance that helps keep your airway open while you sleep.

The Sleep Apnea Treatment Process in Three Clear Phases

Sleep Apnea Treatment can feel more manageable when you know what to expect. We help make the experience clear and personalized, giving you space to ask questions and feel more confident about care that supports healthier rest.
1

Share Your Sleep Concerns

Your care begins with a conversation about concerns such as loud snoring, frequent awakenings, or daytime fatigue. We work with sleep specialists to support a comprehensive evaluation, so you can better understand what may be affecting your rest. This first discussion is a calm place for questions, without pressure to have every answer.
2

Complete Your Sleep Evaluation

A sleep study helps identify the severity of your condition and guide your personalized plan. Depending on your needs, the study may take place in a sleep lab or at home with portable monitoring equipment. The results give you and your care team useful direction for choosing an approach that fits your sleep needs.
3

Rest with Greater Comfort

For many people with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy may be part of the plan. A custom-fitted appliance is worn during sleep to help keep the airway open. Compact, quiet, and travel-friendly, it can make consistent care feel more comfortable while supporting calmer nights and more energized days.

Restful Nights Await

Imagine quieter nights, more alert mornings, and enough energy for family conversations, errands, and the moments you enjoy most.

Sleep support questions

Sleep Apnea Treatment FAQs

Sleep apnea treatment can raise questions about testing, comfort, and which options may fit your needs. We work with sleep specialists to help patients understand their path forward. If something is not covered here, please reach out and ask us.

What is sleep apnea, and why should it be treated?

Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder that causes breathing to stop and start repeatedly during sleep. Interrupted rest can leave you tired during the day and affect concentration. Treatment matters because untreated sleep apnea is linked with cardiovascular and metabolic concerns, including high blood pressure.
Proper treatment begins with an evaluation from a sleep specialist. A sleep study may take place in a lab or at home with portable monitoring equipment. Its results show the severity of your condition and help guide a personalized sleep apnea treatment plan.
Oral appliance therapy may be an option for many people with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, the type caused by a blocked airway. We collaborate with sleep specialists, whose evaluation helps determine whether an oral appliance fits your treatment needs.
Custom-fitted oral appliances are worn in the mouth during sleep. They can gently move the lower jaw forward to help keep the airway open. Certain designs hold the tongue forward instead, helping prevent it from blocking airflow for some patients during the night.
Unlike CPAP machines, oral appliances are compact, silent, and portable. Many patients find them more comfortable and easier to use consistently. They can be an option for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, based on your personalized plan and sleep specialist evaluation.
Once your sleep study results are available, we collaborate with sleep specialists to guide the next step. If oral appliance therapy is part of your plan, the appliance is custom fitted for your mouth and worn during sleep as directed to support treatment.
Oral appliances are compact and designed for convenient use, including while traveling. Care is generally straightforward, but your appliance needs the routine recommended for it. We will explain how to care for it and when to bring any questions to us.
Without treatment, repeated oxygen drops during apnea events can strain the cardiovascular system and are linked to high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes. Sleep apnea can also disrupt hormone balance, contributing to insulin resistance, increased appetite, type 2 diabetes, and obesity over time.
Sleep apnea treatment costs vary with the evaluation and the approach recommended for your needs. After your plan is clear, we can review expected costs and payment options available. This gives you a clearer picture before deciding how to move forward.
Our team works with sleep specialists so your care is informed by a comprehensive evaluation. Tiffany Nichols, our Treatment Coordinator and Sleep Apnea Champion, can help guide the conversation as you consider the personalized sleep apnea treatment options recommended for you.

A little background: I had some really painful dental experiences as a child/teen and have avoided dentists for most of my adult life. So, it’d been more than 15 years since I’d been to one. But my medical doctor kept on me about going, and since I knew my childhood fillings were turning 50 years old, I finally got the courage to find a dentist. I searched Google, read reviews, and decided to give Beacon Dental a try. I admit that on the day of my appointment, I was hoping there’d be a power outage or some minor event that would cause them to have to cancel. But no such luck! And I’m glad because I had a very positive experience there. EVERYONE was kind and respectful, gave no judgement, and were very patient. They always took the time to tell me what they were going to do and to ask me if I was in any discomfort at all (I wasn’t) before doing the next step. Together we formulated a treatment plan – how many times do you get to say THAT when dealing with any healthcare provider – one that I can live with and uses small steps to get those old fillings taken care of. And they offered a variety of payment options so that I won’t struggle to afford the care I need. So, if you’re like me, with a dentist-phobia, I’d highly recommend them. They make you feel safe and comfortable.
